The Kingdom of Thailand, previously known as Siam,
is situated
in the heart of Southeast Asia with Bangkok as the capital city. Phuket (pronounced "poo-quet") is the
biggest island
in Thailand, located in the Andaman Sea off southern Thailand.
Since the 1980s, the sandy beaches on the western coast of the island have been heavily developed into tourist
centres,
with Patong, Karon and Kata being the most popular. Along with its stunning beaches, and picture-perfect landscape,
the increase
in tourism has been brisk. Phuket is known for its thriving dive industry which attracts thousands of
divers every
year.
Since the 2004 Tsunami, all damaged buildings have been restored. The island can accomodate smaller luxury cruise ships such as the Silversea cruiseline, and offers
much more
that just a beach excursion. Be sure to take a tour inland to visit Island Safari for elephant rides, oxcart rides
and Thai
kick boxing events. Visit our homepage
